Hike for an Evening

It is indeed the perfect evening to wander through fields as dusk is beginning to touch the earth. Gentle breezes cooling the sweat that is worked up from exertion and green grasses turned golden scratching at my bare legs.

I wander up to the oaks that dot the landscape. Their bark cracked, gnarled and beautiful in that timeless way that appeals to the soul.

As the colors fade in their brilliant glory to the muting abandon of cooling mist, I long for you to take me in your arms, to share this moment.

I want the moment to be stamped on my body, branded by yours as I smell the earth damp and rich.

And one day when I am old, I will remember the twilight hike.
